2000 Ridge Racer V Arcade Battle Game Play (Actual Hardware)
*Strong Fan Noise in video*
The hardware is quite noisy and there is a constant humming in the video just as an FYI for those who have sensitive ears.
I decided to give this recently wired up Namco 246 arcade setup a try with Ridge Racer V Arcade Battle here. This game is a lot of fun and still holds up quite well after all of these years. If you have the opportunity to play the arcade version it is quite good.

Ridge Racer V in the arcade format, minus the extras like Duel, Free Run and Pac-Man GP. Also the last arcade release in the series, though Arcade Battle came out several months after the PS2 version.
Love watching your content. Nothing beats the Arcade experience. Any differences between the Ps2 and Arcade versions?
As an old soul person for 2000, Luke this is absolutely gold 🪙
Nice Luke! I’ve read that the Namco System 246 hardware was based on the PS2.
Wow that is one loud system!
I think it's been like 15 years since I subscribed to this channel
Love me some Ridge Racer.
love it <3 hey luke i was just wondering what you might think about those "arcade 1up" arcade cabinets? in germany the only ones i saw are street fighter, pac man, centipede and mortal kombat. i once played the pacman one and yeah it works, but felt kinda cheap😅 i don't know if these are even available in japan. but it seems that in america a lot of people have them😊
Always wanted to see / play a Ridge Racer V Arcade machine. Looking good Luke!
I was thrown for a loop when I thought you posted this before, so I'll just loosely repeat what I might have said before: I'm surprised your place isn't burned down with that thing lol. Jokes aside, it's good to enjoy the ridge racer stuff! I'm sure it took a good amount of time to get it set up in the first place, hence why you did the wire up tip video. I don't know if you ever saw the Initial D arcade stuff but some of them were on the Naomi. I think Sega published most of them. Pretty cool stuff, enjoy yourself!
That yellow lit tunnel is so iconic. Nothing beats an Arcade racers. Reminds me of my bowling alley who had the full sized one. I mean the FULL size. Huge projector and full size mazda mx5. It took up a whole room. Unfortunately it was so expensive no one hardly used it.
Can we have another room tour?
Hmm i might try the game in my jambo safari cab
How "strong" is your force feed back with that steering wheel. I got a actual cabinet im working on and am curious if its actually super noticable or not mines not atm.
I luv to collect for my neo geo collection. I know neo geo games have been always expensive, but in this market the prices got insane high, like 2-3 the money before corona
Wow that’s an awesome game. Only have experience with PS2 release game.
hehe, that was awesome... best commentary as always ^^ also, in germany we say "wer bremst verliert". thx for this vid, master luke.
or "braking causes dirty rims"😂
Feel like I've been watching this channel since this game was current😅 Keep up the great work Luke!
Dude basically did what most of us all dreames of....moved to japan and bought awesome games.
Always wanted to try this as a huge RR fan, and of V in particular. Find it pretty desirable due to having a unit and language selector while retaining 60hz. Sucks that it can only run in 480i though. I also hear the handling has been tweaked a bit for the arcades compared to the console release.
3AM here in the UK and Im having a tipple after finishing work at midnight and a Luke notification comes up - always good. Would these results have got you all that on one credit or is it because its on freeplay?
Everyone: "I'm gonna play some Ridge Racer V on my PS2".... Luke: "I'm gonna play some Ridge Racer V on my massive rig"
Are you still in japan? Did you sort things out with your wife? I remember 10 years ago shee said you have too much stuff.
don't all wifes say that?😂
@@MetalTiger88 pretty much haha. I think he had a son too. Just nosey wanted to know his family life was all good now
@@simon_1987 She also became a hardware engineer and in time, shared his love of the arcade. They now spend all their free time together repairing boards and are very happy.
@@SallyMangos what a happy ending, that's so cute.
man oh man to be in my early 20's again. I miss the arcades like these. - "valis77 46yo" LOL! Also you should do a yearly visit to "hard off video" as a tradition.
Had no idea this game had an arcade version
it was always an arcade game that has console versions.
I meant Ridge Racer V specifically. I know ridge racer started in the arcade, but I thought V was like Revolution where it was made only for PlayStation.
@@andrewT23 nope :)
great vid. breaks my heart this was the last arcade rr, this game was brutal compared to what came after.
Tell me about it... I would hope that eventually Namco will revisit the series and make another one (that's fun) in the near future.
The "alright, back again Luke here" is like the little "everything's going to be okay" that we all need in 2024.
Haha! That's pretty neat 😅 not sure if that will carry over or not but it's kind of you to say 😊 Thanks a million!
@@lukemorse1 yeah that needs to stay!
Luke is the best.
Looking good Luke!🏁 😎🤟 I find running RRV on my Japanese PS2 via component out into my capture setup (which only upscales again via pass thru to 1080p) gives a really crisp and clean looking output, arguably it even looks better than the native 480i on my CRTs. I luckily get Similar results with PS2 VF4 and DOA2 also. Nice 👍
Really cool to hear about the set up man! I've seen your captures and they look great! I'm all about these crude setups as you know lol 😂
@@lukemorse1I love seeing the old school original hardware set up, it's great it's still functioning! 😎🏁👍
We so need a "proper" new installment in the Ridge Racer franchise. come on Namco, take my money!!!
Haha, definitely! It really has been quite some time for sure
I mean as far as I know you've lived in Japan since for basically forever. How can you have all this stuff? You have like five storage units lol
Haha, one of the keys is selling or trading off the old equipment for the next project piece. Also only having the boards and not full cabinets helps out a lot. As for this setup, I already had the board but I needed the steering part. This thing is a bit bulky though so I might have to remove the wheel when I store it away 😅
Always a good day when Luke uploads a video. I haven’t played Ridge Racer since the first one on the PS1 back when early PS1 games came in those “long cases”. I remember renting Ridge Racer with my friends back when it was new on the PS1. Good times. I miss the 90s.
I can't say thanks enough for that, really makes my day. Ohh! the original PS and Ridge Racer was amazing when it first came out and I rented them as well! Those were indeed some fun times. Thanks for the skip down memory lane :)
@@lukemorse1 No problem! It's always fun to relive the nostalgic gaming days. It was an amazing time to be a gamer in the 90s and the early 2000s.
You playing Ridge Racer V on real hardware is a huge W. I have this on PS2 and the graphics hold really nice almost 25 years later awesome job man.
I really appreciate that a lot, thank you! I agree, the graphics aren't too bad at all for being 24 years old! Thanks for the awesome comment and hope you have a great weekend!
What’s the point in having all this bulk when the ps2 version is the same?
@@user-yk1cw8im4hwell for some people it is just great to be able to play the arcade machine at home. some games like this one are available on console but some aren't. i once played initial-d on my naomi cabinet with a hacked up dreamcast steering wheel wich was amazing, cause at least in europe we had no initial-d console port😊
@@user-yk1cw8im4hbecause it’s cool. And it’s also probably not 100% the same.

This is a million years late, but thanks for the video! I wish you had shown where the GD-ROM power goes to the other end :/ Trying to figure this out right now.
Oh wow yo
I remember when I was in high school and watched your videos. And now I am one year out of college and I had suuuuuch a good flashback to the past with this. One of the few things that just made me so happy, and eager to go back home and watch! Glad to see you back, and in the same good ol' style as it always has been. It's so refreshing after the growth of YT from ~10 years ago to now. Hope you keep on going, and wish you the absolute best, from a fan from waaaaaay back when. ❤❤❤❤❤
Quintessential lukemorse video! In-depth with crazy hardware and how to get it working. Like always I’ll look forward to another video you put up soon so thanks for making these!
wow looks like a really fragile hardware😅 rememered me of wiring up my dreamcast steering wheel to my naomi cabinet to play initial-d back in the day😅
Loved the Time Crisis series arcade games they were awesome. Great to see you back Luke
Į love Ridge Racer 4 on PlayStation.💛
❤❤❤❤
Isn't it astounding how much of a monstrosity namco had to build just to play this game. Ridge Racer is very well emulated on several platforms nowadays, but just look at their granddaddy. Amazing stuff.
Been watching your videos for 15 years. Never get tired of watching them. Here's to another 15 years of great content!
One of the nicest comments a person could hope to get. Thank you for the continued support, watching the vids, and motivation. I'll keep going as long as the videos provide some sort of entertainment.
Good work saving this board. I remember playing the first Ridge Racer on the PS1 with the "long case" early games came in.
ahhh the ps2 based Namco system 246, one of my favorite arcade boards of all time 👍🙂
The Namco System 246 series never disappoints! Hope you've been well Luke :)
Ridge Racer is awesome , played it a lot on xbox360 but this seems even better :) nice job!
That is a bit more involved than your standard JAMMA connector!
